Name meaning:

Ballygown (different spelling) - the smith's farm / from Irish: Baile Mhic Gabhann meaning "MacGabhann's town" - a number of Scots moved to the Irish town in the early 17th century.

Introduction:

Ballygowan in the hills behind Oban is one of the major farms in picturesque Glen Lonan. The 500 blackface ewes rear good quality lambs on the lime rich ridges that outcrop in the area.
